Hi, it's October. It doesn't feel like it but all y'all insist that it's Autumn?
My a/c was out last week for a bit. This shouldn't be a problem in October but the high was 98 degrees. It sucked.
Ok, that’s enough whining. I mean, at least, for now. How are y’all? We’ve been busy as hell (evidenced by lack of newsletter).
My lovely nephew had surgery last week and sends thanks to everyone who has been so kind and supportive. He plans on returning to work next week and we will be listing “The Essential Dr. Faith” omnibus that came in (it contains Brain, Body, Boundaries, and Intimacy…the four bestsellers…for the price of two of them) as well as a Halloween special (I think a workbook bundle? But I promise he really manages all that because he is the more adulty adult than I am).
Fun fact for y’all. When the discharge nurse asked him about missing work, he explained that he worked for me and everyone who orders from the Etsy store is so, so nice when he can’t ship orders for a week.
So thank you for being so, so nice to someone who is equally so, so nice and deserves all the lovies in the world.
(He’s recovering well, I’m bringing him some homemade chili later).
We have been pushing through a bunch of edits, so there will be some zines showing up that have been languishing on everyone’s end for some time, some new decks, and of course more books.
I’ve also been working on some side projects slowly but don’t trust my ability to complete any of them in a specific enough amount of time to start hyping them. But at least trying to chip away at them is a good start for me!
So what are y’all up to? I’m watching the new season of Tulsa King (and bummed that they are no longer filming around OKC where I recognized so much, and are filming in Atlanta (which does look far more like the nicer parts of Tulsa). I did have a bit of an online grump about having Muskogee speak Lakota, since this seems pretty easy to do correctly. But Sylvester Stallone is great, and I will fight anyone who doesn’t realize what an intelligent and interesting actor he has always been.
I’m reading “Give People Money,” which I would argue is about far more than Universal Basic Income because it also does a great job of showing how money moves through society in the face of invention and innovation and how that cash flows has changed through the Industrial Period (which is less than 100 years old).
Come for the financial literacy, stay for a 78 year old mobster knocking heads where the wind goes whistling down the plain.
(I am not looking up a musical reference to make sure I got it right. Y’all can tell me if I didn’t. Im a stats nerd not a musical nerd so I have only the vaguest notion).
And in honor of being able to find good toilet paper at the grocery store yesterday, here’s a list of the items I will always go name brand on. Y’all please share your own cuz some things are worth fighting for.
Kleenex Cottonelle toilet paper (the aloe one was the best, but I haven’t seen it since Covid)
Speaking of aloe, the aloe and coconut oil Puffs tissues. That’s what I keep in my office. If we’re gonna be crying our way through some ish, we need good tissues.
Dawn dish soap and power wash, because I am middle aged and this is clearly shaping up to be a list of cleaning supplies.
Diet Dr Pepper (you’ll see me with a an HEB Diet Dr B I got in the checkout lane every once in awhile, I apologize for my lapse but they were colder than the Dr Peppers)
Frito-Lay brand Fritos and bean dip. You will not see me with the HEB brand ever. I learned that as a lesson of sadness and disappoint. Frito’s were invented in San Antonio, anyway, so we gotta respect.
Well-made socks that don’t slip
Tampax Sport which also don’t slip
Bedre Chocolate
Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theatres
Ok, so what did I miss?
Agreed on the dr pepper! Also, coffee. The store brand just doesn't taste right 🤷♀️
Q-tips brand Q-tips! All others are just a poke in the ear with a sharp stick. Please, no reminders of what I can and cannot put in my ear - it’s consensual.
