Yeah, I don’t know either. Attempting to hang in there, however.
Baby Nephew has the sickies this week, so orders will be late going out…so if you order something this week we will throw in an extra deck or book along with the other goodies all orders get. And this absolutely includes all orders already placed that haven’t yet shipped.
If you haven’t seen it already, my lovely friend Summer Wesley who is a fellow Chahta Ohoyo and I have started an Instagram page and Facebook page to start sharing plant medicine info and other traditional resources and ways of engaging thoughtfully with the world around us.
So not just “this weed is good for going sleepy-sleepy” but also “this is how you can make an amazing vinegar with strawberry tops” energy. We are publishing our first book together on Choctaw plant medicine, both historically and in modern times, later this year with plans for a couple other books.
And while we are supporting the arts, my girl Mei has some amazing stuff in her Etsy store, both originals and prints for those of us who don’t have the budget we would like to have for beautiful things. Mei’s art has been featured in A LOT of magazines over the years. Fun story, some years ago an employee at Barnes and Noble stopped me to ask me about my quilted purse. I told her my friend Mei made it and she said “It’s so amazing, it looks like a Megan Noel design!” And I responded “that’s her, that’s my Mei-Mei” and I got massive cool points for having her as a friend.
Question for y’all, in reference to something else I am working on:
What about reading academic articles and research makes you nuts? Like you know you are a smart person, but this shit don’t make sense. And will someone please translate what the fuck they are talking about so you can understand?
Feel free to reply to this post or email me your answer.
ANd I probably have more I am supposed to say, but my brain is as fried as y’alls so I don’t remember. So we will let this be all for now.
Do the best you can with what you have and don’t forget to floss,
Auntie Faith
Academic articles often suffer from some basic readability issues.
First, they’ve got these monstrously long paragraphs.
Second, the journals they’re printed in don’t like putting text in columns, so there’s like 15 words per eyesweep across the page, and that shit’s exhausting.
Third, I forgot what I was going to say third.
Fourth, they’re often written in a way where they are specifically trying to impress their dissertation committee. So, they are assuming their audience, and their competition for that audience all have at least a master’s degree in the field. So they operate on a lot of assumptions about their audience’s background knowledge.
Fifth, not enough comics.
That’s basically my rundown. Others might reprioritize these 5 things. That’s fine. But it’s really important that my third point, whatever it was, remain in the third position.
